“The Story of September 1965”

So It is a clear Morning of 6th September 1965, just before nimaz e fajjar when the Indian army with its full strength, crossing the Line of Control, attacks the city of Lahore taking Pakistan totally by surprise. President of Pakistan Ayub khan announces on Radio Pakistan ” The believers of La ilaha ilAllah, the Indian army has invaded our territory and Pakistan is officially in a state of war”

The Indian Army Chief, Gen. J. N. Chaudhry being so confident in his army announces that he would have a large peg of whiskey at the Lahore Gymkhana Club   at 11:00 AM.

Being unaware of what horrors and terrors for him lies in the territory he dares to cross, he orders the army to move forward. Taking a few steps further, The barracks, the units, the streets, the atmosphere, every inch in the city of Lahore starts to echo with the sologans of Naara e takbir and Pakistan Army with its full strength hits back india and thus shatters their faith and credence.

7th September, An Air Commodore of Pakistan Air Force enters his F-86 Sabre jet with a vision to defeat and vanquish the enemies of the state. Following an Indian Hunter Aircraft, he gets surrounded by 5 hunter jets of IAF. In a time lapse of less than a minute, he shots down all five of them and creates a record that world will Remember in the future days to come. His name is none other than Muhammad Mahmood Alam SJ, A flying ace pilot who receives sitara-e-jurat (The star of courage) award later on.

8th September 1965, two days has passed, the clouds of war are still hovering over the city of Lahore with waves of terror flowing in the hearts of every person. Using its armoured division and other strike formations, India launches its main attack against Sialkot with more than 500 tanks. It is the second largest tank battle since the second world war.

It is the moment when the front line of Pakistan needs a support from the canons raised in the barracks but the indian tanks are 2 to 3 kilometers away for the bombs to hit them. It is a now or never condition, if pakistan fails to destroy the Indian tanks, this would be the end of Sialkot. Pakistani officers yelling out the name of Allah with full zeal and zest, fires the canons and right after 3 minutes they receive a radio transmission from the front line, that every bomb has hit right onto the tanks of Indian Army. This is the help from Allah, an aid from Almighty, that pierced down the enemies of the believers of La ilaha ilAllah. Allah says that create an atmosphere of jihad, the help of Allah will surely be with you.

10th September 1965, Despite being offered to see his family in Lahore and rest up, Maj. Aziz Bhatti refuses to take up the offer and instead tells an army sergeant “Do not recall me. I don’t want to go back. I will shed the last drop of my blood in the defense of my dear homeland”

Major Bhatti had forced the Indian Army to engage in hand-to-hand combat during the night of the 7/8 September of 1965, and had halted the indian army. And today on 10 September 1965, Maj. Bhatti is on a routine patrol, he stands up from his trench to observe the enemy position despite being warned by army sergeant to take cover and move out of the target. But he refuses to stop, And takes a better position to see the Indian troops.

The next moment, a tank fires a bomb and Maj. Aziz bhatti receives it directly on his chest with Valor and bravery.

17 days, The war continues for 17 days. During this operations, India captures about 400 square miles of Pakistan territory but losses around 1600 square miles of its own to Pakistan. The war ends with the mediation effort of the USSR and a peace agreement gets signed at Tashkent.
