Have you ever thought what would it be like to never sleep? Have you ever been awake for more than 24 hours?
Has there been any person who did not sleep for 30 days?

Well in this article, I will tell you about a sleep experiment that was performed by RUSSIA in late 1940s. In this sleep Experiment, Russians kept 5 people awake for 15 days By using a stimulant gas.

The 5 test subjects were kept in a closed container. Since the cameras to operate in a closed room were not invented yet,, So that room was provided with a porthole window to see the test subjects. These People were the prisoners of World War 2.

They all were falsely promised to be released if they kept awake for 30 days. This sleep experiment went fine for the first 5 days. these prisoners did not complained about a single thing. But after five days ,their conversations started to become Darker. They started to complain about the circumstances that led them to Being the Prisoners. After some time, they stopped talking to each other and began to whisper on the microphones.

After 9 days,

one of them started to scream. he screamed so hard with his full strength and continued to do so for 3 more hours until his vocal cords tore apart. The second prisoner also started to scream and move rapidly across the cell. Two of the subjects tore the pieces of pages from the book, smeared them with the feces and pasted them onto the porthole. Soon the voices from the microphone stopped.

Three more days passed and yet a single voice wasn’t heard from the inside. In order to confirm their presence, scientists monitored the oxygen level and they found out that the oxygen was properly consumed by the five people.
After 14th day, The researchers started to become tense As no response was heard from the inside.

On 15th day,

they announced that they were going to open the chamber and said that all the prisoners should step away or they will be shot. Compliance would give one of them immediate freedom.

To their surprise they heard a voice from inside saying that they no longer want to be freed.
The researchers removed the stimulant gas from the cell and filled it with fresh air. to this, the prisoners started to scream and so did the soldiers who went in to see them. The soldiers saw that one of the test subjects was dead And that there were chunks of meat from the thighs and chest of the dead person spread everywhere on the floor. 

The food showed that it wasn’t even touched after 5 days. The surviving prisoners also had portions of their muscles and skin removed if forcibly torn from their body. Closer examination showed that the wounds were self-inflicted.
The organs below the diaphragm i.e. the abdominal organs were also removed. The main organs such as heart and lungs weren’t damaged but the skin and muscles of rib cage were torn apart exposing the lungs. They had removed their organs and placed them on the floor. Their digestive system was also working fine but soon it was found that the food they had been eating was their own meat. They kept begging to the researchers to not free them.
These test subjects put a fight against the soldiers who tried to remove them from the chamber. One of the soldier was killed on the spot as the test subject ripped off the artery from his leg. Total five soldiers were killed if we also include those soldiers who committed suicide after this event.
During this fight, one of the test subjects got his spleen ruptured And bled to death with his final words saying more and more and more, saying it for three minutes until his last breath.

One of the test subjects that was in severe health was taken to the operation Theatre to have his organ replaced in his body. He was given very large amount of anesthetic, but soon as he felt asleep, his heart stopped beating and he died.
When the next test subject, who had his vocal cord torn apart, was brought into the theater, he fought the doctors in order not to let him fall asleep. So the doctors performed the surgery while he was awake. During the surgery, The test subject kept smiling. When the operation ended after six hours, the test subject said in a whisper, “keep cutting”.

When all of the test subjects were operated on, they demanded to put them back in the cell. they struggled so hard not to fell asleep. As soon as one of them fell asleep, his brain waves became flat and he died.
The test subject that was able to speak, started yelling to put him back in the cell with the stimulant gas. As the researchers had failed their experiment, the army general ordered the soldiers to lock three researchers along with the test subject in the room. On which, one of the named researcher pointed his gun to the commander and shot him in the head. Then he turned towards the subject, And yelled at him I won’t be locked with you. who are you? Tell me what are you?
The test subject smiled and said,

I am you. We are you, we are the madness that is hiding inside you, Begging to get free in the deepest part of your mind. We are what you hide from every night while going to sleep. We are you.

The researcher pointed the gun to his heart And fired. So in his last breath the test subject said, so….. Finally….. Free…..
