Have you ever thought about the companies like Nokia which once ruled the world of mobile phones has completely vanished from the Earth !
Some Companies like Sony, HTC etc. Made smart phones with an innovation to gain new customers but ended up ruining themselves !
Well, today I’m gonna take you through the journey of worst smart phone failures of all time.
10. LG Optimus 3D
Going back some years, LG released a phone called LG Optimus 3D. As the name indicates, this was a 3d phone with 3d display , 3d applications and also with dual 3d cameras at the back.
It could’ve been the ground breaking innovation as the idea of introducing 3d experience into the smartphone was taking this whole smart phone market onto another level !
But ofcourse there were a lot of limitations like the moment you switch into the 3d mode, the screen split into two halves and you only had to look at the phone from a specific angle to avail the 3d experience. This phone was largerly based on 3d content which at that time was very limited !
Not meeting up their sales targets, LG decided to drop their 3d support.
9. Escobar Gold 11 Pro
In 2020 a Company Called Escobar started selling a phone by the name Escobar Gold 11 pro. They said it would be a Gold plated i phone 11 pro at the price of $499 only ! Now that was the main game. Who would sell a gold plated i phone 11 pro at such a cheap price when simple i phone 11 pro worths $1000 !
A lot of people ordered this phone after seeing their advertisement but no one actually received it ! It was a complete scam ! The product disappeared from their website after 4 days of being launched.
8. Xiaomi MIUI Ads
Xiaomi, nowadays is a very popular company, when released their initial models of smartphones, they included ads in them. When you open gallery, there was an ad, you open any application, and pop ! There was an ad, While you were using phone normally, an ad would pop out automatically.
The idea was to generate revenue in order to sell the devices cheaper. But ultimately, this idea couldn’t work as the users were getting disturbed by too many ads. Xiaomi started losing its customers. So they stopped it. So xiaomi ads program makes it ont 8th of our top 10 mobile fails list.
7. Xiaomi Mi mix alpha
Xiaomi released its ground breaming device that the world had never seen before by the name Xiaomi Mi mix alpha. It was a smartphone that was able to wrap 360 degrees around itself !
They added many functions like 3d charging animation, the ability to run different applications on front and back.
Xiaomi planned to release it in December 2019 but this device hasn’t yet been released ! Why? They described that the product release has been delayed due to manufacture complexities. This destroyed the reputation of Xiaomi.
6. Color Filter in one plus phone
In the market where smartphone companies are introducing innovations in a lot of ways, one plus introduced a technology called color filter.
One plus phone with this feature was able to take photos with inverted colors. But there was one thing most interesting about it i.e. it can see through objects !
If you pick up a remote and point the camera towards it, you would easily be able to look at its circuit and cells.
But, the positive reactions towards this feature changed their path. Why? Because people realized that this phone was able to see through some items of clothing. A privacy concern !
Guess what happened to this incredible device with such an amazing feature?
One plus stopped the X ray vision feature of the phone. But removing the x ray vision massively affected the color filter camera and so, served as the death of this model by One plus.
5. The 2MP Macro Cameras !
Well, while buying a new phone, everyone looks at the mobile with more cameras. But let me just ask you a simple question. Is 2MP macro Camera worth it?
Nah ! It’ useless ! If you take a photo with your main camera very close to an object, it would take a better photo than a 2MP macro camera.
The Depth camera, Monochrome camera, And finally the 2 MP Camera doesn’t make any difference.
4. Samsung Galaxy Beam
Samsung released a phone back in 2012 that contained a built in projector. This projector produced an image of 50 inches in size at 15 Lumens. That was really a pro feature introduced by Samsung.
But !
No one was willing to buy it as the phone looked pretty old relative to other smartphones of that time and also it had an older version of android running on it.
So it was a fail by Samsung, a quite miscalculation by a company with this reputation. So this leads samsung to 4th position in our top 10 mobiles failure list.
3. Yotaphone
Yotaphone company released a mobile with two displays, a main screen display at its front and a paper like ink display at its back. That was kinda perfect for readers !
But to include two displays at the same time, the company had to reduce the size of the phone’s battery. This phone had a battery size of only 1800 mAh.
But where did the fail happen?
The yota company told their suppliers that they were going to order a lot of units but they failed to do so. The thing is, if you order more from a supplier, the units would cost you cheaper. So the yota company quickly understood that they were not gonna order so much units. They tried to take a turn, but ended up getting sued for $126 million USD. This marked as the end of yota company.
2. HTC revival
The HTC company was the first company to introduce an android phone but now it holds only 0.05% of the market’s share.
HTC released advertisement saying, “Save the date: 2020.06.16” They were releasing a new phone! Everyone thought that they are back in game but the device when came out was not so much amazing.
It looked like as it was a device of 2015. A design much older than current smartphone designs. And the phone was completely overrated at the price of $600 USD instead of $400 USD. So HTC faced a great loss again.
1. Huawei US Ban
In the recent years, Huawei have become a very successful companies with its Ground breaking flagship phones everywhere. Back in 2017, Huawei mate 10 dominated the market so much that US decided to sell it in their country. But soon its selling was stopped soon as the government found that it would be a large blow to Samsung company. So US banned these Huawei phones.
The next step?
IS put Huawei onto the entity list which means not only Huawei wasn’t able to sell their devices in US But also they were unable to make a contract or work with any companies of US. It means, an end to google play services ! Thats why all the huawei phones we see now doesn’t support Google play services.
Apparently, a lot of companies turned down their contracts with Huawei. An estimated of 130 companies stopped working with Huawei.
Other countries like UK banned Huawei from 5G networks. This was also a major set back as Huawei is the company that is also known world wide for selling communication devices. Huawei ban served as an Absolute tragedy !
So this was the number one failure. There are other companies like Nokia, Motorola that once ruled the mobile market, have now been pretty much disappeared from the Market due to some of the wrong steps.
Who knows what comes next? May be a new smartphone company, or the revival of already disappeared companies that would rule the market one day.
